Pamela Thompson

Clinical Mental Health Intern, NC, SC, and FL

About Pamela

Pamela is a graduate-level counseling intern at Balanced Wellness and a Master’s student in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. She offers virtual services to clients throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida.

Pamela feels a deep calling to women and families during the antenatal, perinatal, and postnatal seasons of life. She is especially passionate about supporting mothers as they process the realities of attachment, work through the impact of a difficult or traumatic birth, and find their way back to a sense of themselves amid the profound identity shifts that pregnancy, birth, and parenthood can bring. She also enjoys navigating identity development issues associated with the transitions inherent in womanhood, such as those characteristic of the menopausal spectrum, and accompanying couples as they navigate the adjustments, tensions, and growth that come with becoming parents together.

Pamela is attentive to the ways a client's background, community, and lived experience shape their story and their healing. For clients who desire it, Pamela also offers therapy that integrates a biblical framework, welcoming faith as a resource in the therapeutic process.

Ideal Client

Pamela is drawn to individuals navigating pregnancy, birth, postpartum adjustment, and the broader transition into motherhood or parenthood. Her ideal clients may be carrying the weight of a birth experience that didn't go as expected, wrestling with disrupted bonding or attachment with their baby, or feeling as though they've lost touch with who they are amid the demands of motherhood and the hormonal transitions of womanhood.

She also welcomes couples who are finding the shifts of parenting more disorienting than they anticipated, whether that shows up as conflict, disconnection, or simply the sense that their relationship needs tending in this new season.

Pamela's clients often want a space that honors both the clinical and the personal, where their cultural background and, if relevant, their faith are not set aside but woven into the healing process. She is well-matched to clients looking for a therapist who will meet them with warmth, patience, and genuine curiosity about their story.

Therapeutic Approach

Pamela draws from a person-centered foundation, believing that each client is the expert on their own life and that healing unfolds most fully within a relationship marked by empathy, trust, and unconditional positive regard. Within that foundation, she integrates Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help clients understand and befriend the different parts of themselves, particularly the parts shaped by attachment wounds or birth trauma, and somatic approaches that recognize the body as central to how trauma is held and released.

Mindfulness-based practices are woven throughout Pamela's work, helping clients build present-moment awareness and a greater capacity to tolerate difficult emotions without becoming overwhelmed by them. She approaches every client through a multicultural framework, remaining attentive to how identity, culture, and context shape both a client's struggles and their pathway toward healing. Grounded in trauma-informed care, Pamela moves at a pace that honors each client's window of tolerance, ensuring that the therapeutic space always feels safe enough for real growth and change to take place.
